Reading the Constitution: A 90-Day Journey

Welcome to Constitution in 90 Days

Most adults haven’t read the U.S. Constitution since high school — if ever. But as citizens, it’s one of the most important documents we can engage with. It defines how power is structured, what rights we have (or think we have), and who gets to decide.

This is a self-paced 90-day course that invites you to read the Constitution — not as a scholar, but as a human being who lives under its influence. You won’t find lectures or legal analysis here. Just the original text, bite-sized reflections, and simple prompts to help you think for yourself.

You don’t need a legal background. You don’t need prior knowledge. You just need curiosity and a willingness to slow down.

Because if we’re going to be an informed citizenry — and an informed electorate — we can’t rely on hearsay or headlines. We have to read it. We have to understand it.

As my father would say:

“Learn how to read and you can’t be fooled.”
(Not always true. But it’s a powerful place to start.)

Each day offers a brief reading, paired with prompts and space for reflection. By the end of 90 days, you’ll have completed the full document — from the Preamble to the 27th Amendment — and formed your own perspective on what it means for today.

Note: All constitutional text in this course is quoted verbatim from the original U.S. Constitution, as archived by the National Archives. You’re welcome to reference modern-English versions if that better supports your understanding.

Things to Consider As You Begin

What kind of commitment are you making to yourself here? What will help you follow through?

What brought you here? What do you hope will change — in you, or around you — as a result of reading this?

What have you been told about the Constitution? What do you already believe — and are you willing to revisit any of that?

Retaking this course from the beginning will reset all of your tracked progress.

A Note from Tracie Jae

Hi Friend!

Thank you for being here.

I launched the first Constitution in 90 Days journey in 2023 because I planned to read the Constitution and thought maybe a few others might like to read it too. In that iteration, we read together over the course of 90 days and checked in virtually every 30 days for accountability and community.

In 2024, I revisited the idea and incorporated reading the Constitution into a 15 week conversation series called “Our Old House.”

Beginning in 2025, I want to have a way for concerned citizens to engage with this foundational text and encourage reflection along the way.

This version has been carefully curated by me and superpowered by ChatGPT. You can thank Lex - that’s what I call my Chat - for summarizing the sections, ‘cuz, whew Chile!

Anyway - I hope you won’t fault me for using the technology available to me. I’m partially mentioning that for transparency. I’m also sharing in case there are errors along the way - they might be human, they might be machine - either way, please bring them to my attention so I can correct them right away.

I’ve done my best to preserve the integrity of the document by providing links to the source material. You’re also always welcome to check it against any other copy of the Constitution you feel comfortable using.

I’ve also done my best to frame the questions without offering a bias. That’s hard because I’m human. If my bias shows - I’ll take it. At least I know you engaged in the process.

I hope you will use the reflection box that’s provided on each page. It’s designed for participation, but also as a way to crowd source human - real time - reactions to reading the Constitution through our modern context. I won’t share your identity or your thoughts without your consent.

Beyond anything else, I really just wanted you to know that there is an actual human on the other side of this content and that you are appreciated.

LOVE first. Always!
